Jacqueline Fernandez grew up in Bahrain, Manama. She is Sri Lankan and comes from an ethnically diverse background. The father of Jacqueline's Elroy Fernandez hails of Sri Lanka (Sinhalese - Catholic)and her mother Kim is a Malaysian. There are two brothers younger than her and a older sister. Her parents moved to Bahrain in the late 1980s as a result of the Lankan civil unrest and hence she was born and raised in Bahrain. She was given a scholarship to attend the University of Sydney in Sydney Australia following the completion of her education in Bahrain. To further develop her love of cultures, languages and other languages, she was enrolled at the Berlitz language schools where she was able to learn Spanish as well as improve French as well as Arabic. Miss Sri Lanka 2006 won Miss Universe 2006 competition in March of 2006, and later was also crowned Miss Universe 2006 also. Following her winning the 2006 Miss Sri Lanka win, Padukone entered the television world and hosted a show about Sri Lankan businesses named Lanka Business Report. Padukone (the child of former badminton players Prakash Padukone) was born and grew up in Bangalore. When she was a teenager, she played badminton in national level championships but left her profession in sports to become a fashion model. Padukone is a native of Mangalorean roots and is fluent in Konkani as her primary language. Padukone is a village in Kundapura Taluk of Karnataka's Udupi District. Prakash Padukone was a badminton legend before retiring in the 80s. The mother of her daughter, who worked for a travel agency also comes from the village.
